Cal Club Tennis is a co-ed, competitive, club tennis team. In the fall, we travel locally and play against other schools in the Bay Area. In the spring, we compete in travel tournaments including Cali Cup and Nationals! We are the 11-time defending Northern California Sectionals champions and finished second at the last two national championships in 2019 and 2022.
Check back here to follow our tournament schedule and results! Our next stop will be in Tucson, AZ for the 2023 Wildcat Winter Classic. If you would like to help support our team, check out our crowdfunding campaign here!
Two Cal teams traveled to Arizona for the Wildcat Winter Classic. Cal A fell just short against ASU A in the semifinals of the gold bracket. Cal B avenged the loss with a 7-0 run, including wins over the A teams of Colorado, Arizona, Stanford, and ASU to win the gold bracket. Thank you to University of Arizona for hosting us!
Cal comes out on top at the 2022 Sectional Championships! Cal A defeated Stanford A in the final to earn a spot at Nationals, with Cal B finishing as runner-up in gold bracket consolation, Cal C winning silver bracket, and Cal D winning silver bracket consolation. Follow us in April to see how we do!
From April 7-9, the USTA Tennis on Campus National Championships hosted 64 schools from across the country in the first time the event had been run in 3 years. The Bears competed hard, defeating American, UT Dallas, Utah, Northwestern, Washington, and Florida, before falling to UCLA in the final.
Sectionals in 2021 saw a dominant showing by Cal as the tournament concluded with a Cal Gold vs. Cal Blue final. Thank you to Stanford for hosting! Next up, we'll head to Nationals to try for another title. Follow us in April to see how we do!

Tryouts are held in the fall each year. We do not hold tryouts in the spring.
There is no minimum or maximum number, and it varies from year to year. We take individuals based off of their overall fit with the team as well as talent level, so there are no limitations.
Club Tennis is all about putting in as much as you want to get out of it! Many activities are voluntary and flexible. We have practices three times a week on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7-9pm, and Saturdays from 1-3pm. Although these practices aren't mandatory, it is important to know that our captains are constantly evaluating the contributions each individual makes to the team. Also, regional and national tournaments require members to have played a minimum amount of previous tournaments to qualify, so please keep that in mind.
Don't worry, there's always next year! Each year we have a huge number of crazy talented people come out, which means our decision is always extremely tough. In the meantime, you should definitely consider joining Cal's intramural tennis club, Berkeley Tennis Association (formerly Tennis at Cal). It's a great group of people for all levels of tennis who just love to play.
